Welcome to Lancashire Rail Ramblers
Ever wished to climb that peak, ramble on those inviting moorlands or explore those limestone dales, but were not certain of the way back on your own?
If so, Rail Ramblers are for you. We get to the heart of the countryside and give you a choice of free guided walks and visits led by a guide from the Ramblers’ Association – the people who know the countryside.
We use the rail network in north west England – it goes to the best walking areas – Edale & the Hope Valley, Glossop & Buxton – all in the Peak District. It also covers the Lake District, Cumbrian Coast, Grange Over Sands & Arnside, the East Cheshire Moorlands near Macclesfield, Delamere Forest and the West Pennine Moors and South Pennines to name but a few. Connecting bus services are also used occasionally.
If you would like a day out on a guided walk in the countryside with friendly people and without your car then come and join us. You will find information about our current programme on this site together with details of where to meet and which train to catch. If your local station hasn’t got a ticket office then pay on the train.
Leaders from the Ramblers’ Association will join the train at some stage of your journey to tell you about your day out.
You are welcome to join any of the guided walks. At all times, your safety is your own resposibility. Our guides reserve the right to vary any walk to meet the prevailing weather conditions and to suit the requirements of the walking parties. All you need to bring is strong footwear, waterproofs, at least one packed meal and a hot/cold drinks as most walks include a picnic lunch stop.
