Gt Budworth is a quintessential English village. To-day’s walk will be a perambulation of the parish and follow a route first undertaken in by founder Rail Rambler leaders – Harold Jones and Howard Hammersley in 1986. The route goes by way of Pickmere, Aston by Budworth, Arley Green, Arley, and Budworth Heath to Gt Budworth. Time to explore the village before catching the bus to Northwich.

EAST LANCS COMMUNITY RAIL WALKS

The next walk will take place on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21st and will be Part 3 of our exploration of the Burnley Way. To-day’s walk will begin at Worsthorne and will be 6 miles in length taking in the historic hamlet of Hurstwood, the strange landscape of Shedden Clough, the ancient highway of The Long Causeway, the wind farm of Cliviger and the hidden beauty of Pudsey Clough before descending into Portsmouth.

Your leader is Craig Ward

TRAVEL DETAILS: Travel on the 08.44 train from Blackpool South calling at Preston at 09.22 and all stations to Burnley Central where it arrives at 10.15. We shall catch a bus to Worsthorne and a bus back from Portsmouth.

*WAYFARER TICKETS – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (NB NOT required for Community Rail Walks)

Wayfarer Tickets must be purchased in advance from manned stations in Greater Manchester, Chorley or Clitheroe & Nelson Interchanges. The tickets cost £10.00 for adults or £5.oo for the over 60′s (no proof of age required) and others are available for groups or children. The tickets are of a scratchcard type and must be validated with the date of travel.

Tickets can also be ordered in advance from: Wayfarer Ticket Sales, GMPTE, Wythenshawe, Manchester, M22 5RG. If ordering by post please send a cheque made payable to GMPTE and leave at least a week for reply.
